New AMH facility in A'Ali wins Best Healthcare Project 2023 in MENA Region
The King Hamad American Mission Hospital building in A’Ali has won the Best Healthcare Project of the Year 2023, beating several other projects from countries across the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region.
Announced at the prestigious MEED Projects Awards 2023 ceremony held in Dubai, on Wednesday, 22 November 2023, this award recognizes the fifth and the largest of the American Mission Hospital facilities in Bahrain, as this year’s best-designed hospital project in the entire region.
“We thank His Majesty the King and His Royal Highness the Prime Minister and Crown Prince for their support, from the initiation of the project to its completion and opening in January this year,” said Dr. George Cheriyan, the CEO of the American Mission Hospital.
“Their unwavering support has been instrumental in the successful execution of the project. And, today, for this 120-year-old hospital serving the Bahraini community since 1903, this is a great accomplishment and recognition,” he said.
“Our thanks also to the leaders of the healthcare sector in Bahrain such as the Supreme Council of Health, the NHRA, and the Ministry of Health. And we are also grateful to all the architects, engineers, contractors, builders, and other suppliers - from within Bahrain and from outside - who worked together on this project, despite enormous difficulties during the pandemic,” he added.
This 125-bed hospital in A’Ali, with an estimated cost of US$80 million, spans an impressive 70,000 square metres, and features 50 urgent and intensive care beds in specialized units. It also includes a modern maternity suite and five futuristic modular operating rooms.
Since 1957, MEED (Middle East Economic Digest) has been publishing on the economic sector of the region, and this award ceremony is the 13th edition of Projects Awards which it instituted in 2007.
The other 2023 finalists for the MENA Hospital project of the year 2023 were: The Ahl Masr Trauma and Burn Hospital in Egypt, The View Hospital Project in Qatar, the Centre Of Excellence in Dubai, UAE, and the Saudi German Hospital in Saudi Arabia.
